Polish industrial textile production shrank sharply after 1989, and for years the category belonged to commodity manufacturers. It is also the part of the market that is hardest to find from abroad, because these are studios rather than export brands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>How to judge linen bedding<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Before you compare brands, learn to compare fabric. These four criteria work at any price level and in any country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>Fabric weight<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Weight is one of the more useful numbers on a linen product page, though it only means something when you read it together with fibre quality, weave and finishing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a rough guide, anything under 130 g\/m\u00b2 is a lighter, airier linen. The 150 to 170 g\/m\u00b2 range is where most year-round bedding sits, balancing texture against moderate weight. Above 180 g\/m\u00b2 you are into heavier linen with a more substantial, rustic character.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>Fibre origin<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

If a brand will not tell you where its flax comes from, ask. Origin says something useful about supply chain transparency, but on its own it is not a quality verdict, so read it alongside weight, weave and finishing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>Certification<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

OEKO-TEX\u00ae Standard 100 confirms that the finished product has been tested for harmful substances against the criteria of that standard. Class I is the strictest tier, written for products that touch babies’ skin. SNOOZE and GRID both hold OEKO-TEX\u00ae Standard 100 Class I.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

European Flax certification covers European cultivation and farming practice, and is worth looking for on linen specifically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>Finishing, and what nobody mentions about shrinkage<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Raw linen is stiff. Good linen bedding is softened before it reaches you, usually by garment washing or stone washing, and a brand that knows its process will describe it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One more thing to look for is whether the brand states expected shrinkage. Ours is up to 5% after the first wash. Linen does that, and we would rather say so upfront.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do I care for linen bedding?<\/strong>
Wash at up to 40\u00b0C on a gentle cycle, inside out, without fabric softener, which clogs the fibre while linen softens perfectly well on its own. Do not overload the drum, and air dry in the shade. Ironing is optional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What certification should linen bedding have?<\/strong>
